Collaboration is an incredibly important part of TapRm’s day to day: almost all processes and operations within TapRm have some form of collaboration or cross-over between teams. Internal communication is frequent and open — whether that be through messaging, email, phone calls, video calls, or in-person meetings — which is key to ensuring projects are moving forward and on schedule, and for information to stay accurate. Our teams have defined responsibilities and roles — team members know exactly who to reach out to with questions. TapRm’s culture promotes a respectful and open environment for opinions and perspectives, ensuring collaboration and innovation.
TapRm’s team has a positive vision for the future because our vision is trickled down from our CEO right down to a new hire on their first day, and our team touches upon the core mission and values of that vision every day with their own goals and responsibilities. Every team member’s personal set of KPI’s are created and cascaded down from the company’s overall vision and goals. The reason we do this is to empower and motivate our team members: we want them to understand that everything they do has a direct impact on TapRm’s overall success.
Respect for diverse perspectives and for all individuals is a core value for TapRm and our team, it is inherent in every interaction that our team has externally and internally. To ensure that all voices are heard and represented and that employees' ideas are valued throughout the company, we encourage an open forum for team members to share and ask questions and our leaders strive to build trust with every team member so they feel empowered to speak up and share their opinions and ideas. We provide information in a non-hierarchical way so everyone can contribute and feel included.
TapRm supports our team members in achieving their professional and personal goals by regularly discussing culture and performance objectives -- most of our managers meet with their teams once or twice a week to ensure that they are staying on top of their responsibilities and to provide a forum for questions. Cross training is also a large part of TapRm's culture -- employees are supported to explore new roles and areas of the company that they may be interested in. Employee development is a large part of our core values, and we reward individuals who actively seek out knowledge and growth.
Our company values are aligned with our team members because our values actually reflect what they stand for and what they strive to be in the future as we grow. There’s no question that the core values and culture of TapRm are lofty, but we are constantly working with our team to integrate those values and behaviors into their day to day language and actions. The level of alignment that our team has achieved fuels their drive to complete our goals and provides a level of ownership and responsibility to everything they do.
One of the most important things a company can do for their team is to provide clear expectations and vision: TapRm utilizes bi-weekly company-wide All Hands meetings to relay TapRm’s vision, goals, and current projects — ensuring everything is clear, specific and without any doubts. These meetings are led by our CEO and our executive team. We encourage team member shoutouts and feedback, and also provide learning opportunities to all team members that are looking to develop skills. On a social level, we have quarterly team summits where everyone comes together to discuss company strategy and encourage team building.
Jason Sherman, TapRm's Founder & CEO, serves as a model for our company's culture in every way. He lives, breathes, and reflects those values in every aspect of his life -- and not because he has to but because he truly believes in them. He operates with integrity, respect, and openness, believes in developing the best team, and values every employee's ideas and feedback -- especially on his own decisions for TapRm and its future. Jason has ensured that our values are represented in all aspects of TapRm's day-to-day, and gives frequent training to ensure everyone in the company understands their importance.
At TapRm, we truly believe in the importance and value of comprehensive benefits for obtaining and retaining talent (especially as a startup), focusing on total wellness for our team members. We offer a full suite of competitive benefits (medical, dental, vision, FSAs, HSAs, different types of coverage), including a family-focused parental leave policy that pays 100% of an employee's salary for 12 weeks and an Employee Assistance Program for mental health concerns. TapRm has an unlimited paid time off policy and also provides an 8% matching 401k to all full-time employees.
TapRm has taken the health, safety, and comfort of our employees very seriously during the COVID-19 pandemic. For our operational and retail employees, we ensure that our in-person workers are following the proper sanitizing and safety procedures to ensure optimal health not only for themselves but our customers. Any employees who get sick are able to take as much time as they need to rest and recover, with no stop to their pay or benefits. We are not enforcing an in-person office (in fact, more than half of our team works remotely), but that option is available for anyone interested.
