Foundation Medicine, Inc.

Why Foundation Medicine, Inc. IS A MOST LOVED WORKPLACE®

Systemic Collaboration

EMPLOYEES COLLABORATE THROUGHOUT OUR COMPANY BY …

Collaboration is one of our core values. We recognize collaboration as part of our #Gratitude system, and we recognize our peers when we see it being done well. We encourage our employees to celebrate successful collaboration in real-time, which fosters a culture of gratitude and belonging.

We rely on the best technology to collaborate efficiently to have the biggest impact possible for patients. And having robust and user-friendly technology also makes our employees' lives easier.

Our commitment to collaboration extends into our external partnerships. We have strong collaborations with pharmaceutical companies developing targeted therapies for patients, advocacy organizations ensuring that patients understand their treatment options, and researchers working alongside us to make more progress in oncology. We know that the only way we can truly impact cancer care holistically is if we’re working together.

Positive Vision of the Future

EMPLOYEES AT OUR COMPANY HAVE A POSITIVE VISION FOR THE FUTURE BECAUSE …

To connect our employees to our mission, we invite patients to our Town Halls to share how our tests have impacted their care journeys. This creates a ripple effect across the company, showing firsthand the immeasurable impact on patients’ lives.
Our “Our passion is personal” initiative showcases employees with photographs of their loved ones who are facing or have faced cancer; these photos are displayed in our buildings, on our employee intranet, and across our social media channels. With most people experiencing cancer in some way, this personal approach helps employees understand the importance of their work.

Company Respect

WE SHOW RESPECT AND ENSURE THAT ALL VOICES ARE HEARD AND IDEAS ARE VALUED THROUGHOUT THE COMPANY BY …

Several years ago, we established an office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to help us grow our culture of respect. Through resources and programing that takes place throughout the year, our employees are presented with opportunities to learn, ask questions and grow.

Our DE&I office has 4 pillars of belonging: 1) bold and inclusive leadership 2) cultural competence 3) courageous conversations and 4) efficacy of belonging. These pillars are pulled through all of their work. They were also recently added as areas to applaud other employees within our #Gratitude recognition platform.

For the past two years, we have published a DE&I annual report to keep ourselves accountable to continued growth in this space.

Our Leaders Live series to amplify important topics relevant to DE&I, such as unconscious bias, by inviting national and local thought leaders to join a Foundation Medicine leader for an informal conversation.

Company Support / Killer Outcomes

WE SUPPORT OUR EMPLOYEES IN ACHIEVING THEIR PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL GOALS BY …

Our Performance Management program, called MyPath, is designed to support and guide our employees along their unique performance and career development path.  It includes moments throughout the year to set individual objectives and key results, to focus on development, to check in on progress, and to have a meaningful two-way conversation at year end focused on each employee's engagement and wellbeing, OKR and values achievements, and ratings and compensation. These thoughtful and frequent check-ins help employees build upon strengths and successes and provide clarity on their path forward so that they can achieve their career aspirations.

We are also focused on helping our employees grow their skills all the time through our uLab program which offers monthly workshops in partnership with a best-in-class external partner to help our employees build skills and make precise changes that have the biggest and most profound impact fast. Examples include skillful conflict & collaboration, influential communication, behaviors of inclusion, adaptivity & resilience, and more.

We also offer the entire suite of LinkedIn Learning courses to our employees. Every employee receives an unlimited license to the entire LinkedIn Learning platform, giving them access to the world's largest learning library.

We are also proud to have an impressive number of employees who have made moves within the organization to different areas of the business to pursue new career aspirations.

Alignment of Values

OUR COMPANY’S VALUES ARE ALIGNED WITH OUR EMPLOYEES BECAUSE …

Our community is bound by these four core values that guide our work toward improving our patients’ treatment journeys:
– Collaboration reminds us that we do our best work when we do it together.
– Innovation is at the heart of our work to advance patient care, and our commitment to researching the best options for our patients led to over 100 new publications last year.
– Our work is driven by a Patients-first mindset, as their wellbeing is at the forefront of everything we do.
– Passion is the most important trait we look for when hiring new employees, as we strive to build our culture around people who care about our work as deeply as we do.

We weave all four of these values into our daily workflows so that they are tangible and evident in everything we do.
