We’ve maintained culture and connection through online channels like Zoom and Confluence (Atlassian) and in-person office meetings, keeping UK, US and APAC teams feeling together. We connect with each other during our regular collaboration events like innovation days and hackathons, which give employees the opportunity to form a group with others across the company to come up with a new idea or initiative, improve processes and more. We have a strong ERG culture, which gives everyone the opportunity to collaborate and drive awareness across a number of our communities - LGBTQ+, Parents, Inclusion and Diversity, Alfa for Racial Equity, Women’s, Green, Social Impact and Mental Health Allies communities.
We continue to grow – and as we bring in new colleagues they bring new ideas, new approaches, and new skills. We are actively looking to increase our diversity – opening up opportunities to people who previously may not have thought a career in tech was for them, via work experience programmes partnered with upReach and diversity drives across the business. We continue to invest in our biggest asset – our colleagues. We share our vision, strategy and progress regularly at Townhalls and Company meetings so colleagues can see their contribution to our success.
*We have many channels to encourage employee feedback and ideas : Our quarterly engagement survey where results and all responses to concerns are published on our global intranet; Regular Townhalls with live Q&A where employees are encouraged to ask any question of the Company Leadership Team; our Employee Resource groups which are at the heart of our culture, are empowered to drive action throughout Alfa; we give everyone 5 days a year for Innovation where employees are encouraged to spend time working on anything they want to that improves our culture; our product or our processes and we run regular listening groups with our new joiners to take on board feedback and continuously improve what we do – we also did this as we transitioned out of lockdown and created our Smart Working approach.
We provide 5 days per year to everyone for personal development; we have structured career paths that identify skills and competencies required to progress through chosen career; we invest in 3 month training programme up front for all new graduates joining Alfa – bringing in people with limited tech experience and helping them shape their career; career coaches are available across the business that anyone can access; we have a healthy Learning budget that enables us to support employees gain externally recognised qualifications, including attendance at relevant conferences and events; Managers have access to external coaches – on demand and available when they want / need them; we've launched a leadership development training - recognising leadership is for all.

We celebrate employees who showcase our values through our recognition programme – Alfa Bravo – and through awards announced at our annual December company meeting. We ask candidates during interviews to talk about our values and give their own examples of where they have demonstrated or lived these. We align our in-house learning and development to our values and reference and bring them to life throughout our training.

We continued our busy events and social calendar during covid, moving to remote events (adding events for employees’ children, giving breaks from homeschooling). We offered enhanced paid carers leave allowing employees to take time off for caring responsibilities without financial impact. We introduced a working from home allowance, enabling employees to purchase equipment to support remote work. When returning to the office, we listened to feedback before introducing “Smart” working, our version of flex/hybrid working, empowering managers and teams to decide working patterns and schedules that work best for them, supporting work life balance.
