We celebrate collaboration – it’s “we vs. I” at ATD. We call upon expertise and partner across teams to integrate our ways of working, create real progress and break down boundaries. Each associate listens to the diverse experiences and knowledge of teammates while building partnerships that span across the enterprise.
It’s the care and shared humanity we use as the lens for the programs and initiatives we design for our associates; it all comes from the heart and soul that beats through each and everyone of our people. We have a culture where every associate can be their authentic self.
At ATD, we help drive diversity and inclusion across the organization through mindful practices and conversations supportive of our people-first culture where everyone can thrive, feel respected and have an equal voice.
Our Culture committee is made up of diverse leaders across the business to include all parts of the organization. We recognize, celebrate and respect the things that make our associates uniquely them. Recent examples include are weAreOne, Black History Month, Pride, Hispanic Heritage observations and videos of associates sharing their stories and resources
Also, our social responsibility initiatives that allow all associates to participate (GSF, Feeding America, Toys for Tots) across the network and localize to their communities.
We’re a learning culture and we celebrate knowledge and invest in associates and leaders that are thirsty to continue to learn and grow with ATD. Our modern learning ecosystem provides daily learning for all associates and leaders and it’s even a part of our individual objectives.
The pace of change requires ongoing refinement of objectives and priorities. Our quarterly performance and development discussions drive transparency and respect in how associates are performing and provide the forum for adjustments so each associate is working on the most critical professional and development priorities.
Our values are the mindsets, behaviors and traits that we embody every day. Associates were included in defining the values that meant the most to them in 2018. Then, we intentionally designed learning paths to instill the values into the fabric of our company and initiatives that allowed our associates to put the values into practice.
We believe in driving hope, happiness and well-being across communities in which we live and serve, so that this generation and the next has opportunity and accessibility to thrive and drive into the future.
We design all of our programs with the whole person in mind which because we’re all people at the end of the day. And we know the whole person comes to work. Some of these programs include:
weCare Associate Relief Fund – funded by associates for associates during unexpected hardships (illness, death, natural disasters)
Monthly engagement activities, including wellness, DEI, national observances & holidays
appreciatd platform where we celebrate the moments that matter
LifeatATD.com associate engagement website to stay connected on activities to get involved with across the company, including a feedback loop
We live our values at ATD across all layers of the company and have created a culture of transparency, trust and authenticity. This happens when it is lived and modeled from leaders. Our CEO opens every directors forum and town hall with a reminder of our purpose, vision and values – it’s the value of respect that he’s most passionate about (humility; what more can I do). And the organization sees that. They feel it.
We also have regular (bi-weekly/monthly) video updates from our CEO to keep associates connected to leadership and monthly new hire coffee chats with our CEO and 2-3 executives (rotating schedule based on functional area of new hires).
We believe in choice and providing every associate with options that support their unique needs. Some of these include:
Tiered benefit premiums based on pay (those who earn less, pay less for same coverage)
Investment in associate wellness, including Dario (EAP, physical and emotional wellness)
Annual weCare Volunteer Day (8 hours) to give back to the communities where we live and work
Front load PTO accrual so associates can use through year
Total company bonus in 2021: one-time payment for non-bonus eligible associates (corporate), quarterly bonuses for DC hourly associates to thank everyone for excellent company performance
During the pandemic, keeping our culture alive and well was a priority at ATD. The value of respect became even more prevalent when we welcomed each other into one another’s home lives in ways never experienced before in the workplace.
We established a COVID-19 leave donation program for associates that need more time off to take care of themselves or their families and immediately implemented remote work for all associates not in the Distribution Center. We supported them through providing a safe work environment with health protocols, provided PPE and protected their work schedules.
We lead with compassion and care – we encourage shared humanity because we’re all people at the end of the day. And we know the whole person comes to work. As we prepare for our return to office (Aug 2022), we’re putting this into practice by creating a workplace that’s hybrid to the individual needs of each associate.
