Collaboration at Best Egg is enabled by our company commitment to the Organizational Health framework, which provides clarity around what is most important to the company. With a clear north star to guide everyday work, our employees can focus on collaboration and decision making that drives the company mission forward. We have also adopted tools and approaches that help our employees collaborate and stay connected despite being a hybrid workforce. Maximizing the use of our physical office space as a collaboration tool is also a focus and we look to make time spent in the office meaningful.
Best Egg has charted a course to become the leading platform for inspiring financial confidence for our customers and our leadership has continued to build a product set to achieve that. Employees are a key part of that vision and the leadership team focuses on ways to be transparent and communicative. For example, we have Weekly Results Reviews for the entire company where leaders cover important topics and updates. We hold Quarterly Business Reviews that focus on inviting some fun into our day to day thru themed celebrations while also providing an important forum for updates and questions. At either of these, all employees are invited to ask questions through our company Slack channels. Every week, employees see key information communicated through the weekly newsletter. Employees have many opportunities to engage with leadership through meetings like these, project work and “demo days” and our mentoring program.
As a company who has embraced a Core Value that “Our People Matter”, we want to ensure that all voices are heard and that all ideas are valued. We seek to build an inclusive culture everyday in a variety of ways. We have 6 Employee Resource Groups (“ERG’s) that are very active and plan educational and networking events as well as community engagement activities. We have invested in large scale efforts such as our month long learning event about empathy in October 2022 called “Evolving Through Empathy” where we invited outside speakers to teach us about being more creative through inclusion, inclusive design for customers and why the Employee Resource Groups help drive empathy. Our DEI Team focuses on our recruiting, hiring and promotion practices and prompted our Manager Training around Taking Bias out of the Interview and Hiring process. Lastly, we have a robust internal hiring program that includes both internal internship opportunities (with the potential to convert to full time) and an internal postings program that provides employees the opportunity to learn about all positions that get posted, as well as learning sessions with the hiring Manager to understand more about the role.
We believe that some of our best talent comes from our internal pipeline and have shown a commitment to hiring from within. In order to achieve success with internal hires, we offer a few ways that employees can grow and develop in their careers. All hourly employees are given 4 hours per month to devote to personal development. Our mentoring program (which has grown to include 140+ participants) provides an opportunity for employees to learn from more seasoned employees and, in several cases, has helped to facilitate transitioning into a new role. Through our partnership with coding bootcamp, ZipCode, we have been able to help employees with a desire to move into technology roles but without a technology background gain the skills they need to take the next step.
Since its inception, Best Egg has focused heavily on culture and creating an atmosphere where every employee has a voice and an opportunity to succeed. In addition to a week long orientation program offered to all employees when they start, there are multiple ways we assess and reinforce culture. We use a tool called OfficeVibe to send weekly pulse surveys on a changing set of topics. Those results are then actioned by Managers and Leadership as needed. Our Leadership Principles are part of both our recognition program and our performance management program.
Given our focus on our people, we offer a number of unique benefits. One of those is the practice of “Quiet Days”. Prior to the start of each calendar year, our DEI Team selects a number of cultural heritage celebrations and holidays throughout the year that are designate as “Quiet Days”. On these days, we do not hold mandatory meetings and, in fact, employees are encouraged to refrain from holding meetings at all on these days. There are communications and/or learning opportunities that explain the significance of that particular day. We also hold “Talks at Best Egg”, which are hybrid events offering employees an opportunity to gain insights from distinguished and diverse outside speakers on a variety of business topics.
As CEO, Paul Ricci practices our value of “Our People Matter” through instilling an inclusive culture where employees are welcomed to be their most authentic self. Paul makes himself available to all employees and has a visible presence throughout the company. As one of the earliest leaders at Best Egg, Paul has helped the company grow, while ensuring that our people remain the top priority.
Providing support for employee’s health and well being is very important and we have implemented several ways to do this. We run an annual wellness incentive program that encourages employees to take care of preventative health measures. We also offer fully paid short term disability leave for mental health related challenges. Our employees have access to an EAP that can help with a wide array of health and wellness related questions.
