Bisnow

Why Bisnow IS A MOST LOVED WORKPLACE®

Systemic Collaboration

EMPLOYEES COLLABORATE THROUGHOUT OUR COMPANY BY …

Positive Vision of the Future

EMPLOYEES AT OUR COMPANY HAVE A POSITIVE VISION FOR THE FUTURE BECAUSE …

Bisnow has extreme transparency. We work extremely hard to practice exceptional leadership and consistently seek to be better. Our CEO puts on a State of the Union 3 – 4 times a year that is mandatory for all employees to join. In preparation for the SOTU, we gather data and feedback from every department head. On the ZOOM we go through financial performance, department initiatives and the future state of Bisnow. Our employees have time to ask questions at the end – which we always have engagement on.
In the spirit of extreme transparency, our leadership team is always accessible. If you want to have a conversation with our CEO, then schedule it. There are many ways we create cohesion of teams to cross collaborate together. For example, our Editor in Chief meets individually with partners of all levels to talk through content at events which in turn helps them write better copy. There are many similar cases to this.

Company Respect

WE SHOW RESPECT AND ENSURE THAT ALL VOICES ARE HEARD AND IDEAS ARE VALUED THROUGHOUT THE COMPANY BY …

Our values don’t simply appear on the wall of our offices or on the magnets that decorate our beer and wine-filled fridges across the globe. We hire and fire based on our values. By doing so, we remain authentic to the promise we made to one another when we joined the team and continue to make every day as we work together towards the same goal.
We have a book at Bisnow that is our culture guide called Extreme Ownership: How US Navy SEALs Lead and Win. Every Bisnow, Biscred & SelectLeaders employee reads it when they join us. We obviously do not ask our employees to jump out of planes or to participate in firefights with enemy combatants. While the book does take place during wartime, we focus on the lessons that translate to business; working together, exceptional leadership, overcoming challenges, and ownership are part of our culture and the book showcases a lot of these in practice. Bottom line: this is a tool to help understand how these values can drive success within our organization.

Company Support / Killer Outcomes

WE SUPPORT OUR EMPLOYEES IN ACHIEVING THEIR PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL GOALS BY …

One of the significant pieces to the puzzle that we felt like we were missing were career growth plans for individual departments. We worked with each team leader to develop IDPs and flexible department growth plans. What are flexible growth plans? We have seen a higher retention rate with our employees (and a longer tenure) by allowing them to not only promote within their departments, but also into other departments. There are countless employee stories of starting in 1 area of the business and transitioning into a completely separate department. We house all of this in something called the Bisnow Brain. The Bisnow Brain is accessible to all employees.
We offer Career Advancement Trainings (run externally) & a BisLearn Series (run internally) to include but not limited to:
LifeLabs Management Training Course
Dale Carnegie Management Training Bootcamp
Event Management Training
Excel Courses
Commercial Real Estate Courses
Hiring Training
Advanced Specific System Trainings
LinkedIn Training & Personal Branding Workshops
AI Workshops

Alignment of Values

OUR COMPANY’S VALUES ARE ALIGNED WITH OUR EMPLOYEES BECAUSE …

We hire and fire by our values.
Our values demand that we be curious, self-aware, fearless, consistent. We say yes to seemingly insurmountable challenges because we dare ourselves to push further. And we go the distance because we are individually and collectively entrepreneurial, always asking: Why can’t it be done? We find a way because we care more than the competition. We embrace team and disown ego. We are ruthlessly disciplined and unabashedly kind. We unreservedly challenge the status quo and vigorously fight for new levels of excellence. We believe the difference between good and great is exceptional communication. We obsess over creating value for our team and our customers. We push ourselves and our industry to be more inclusive, to champion diversity and to fight racism, gender bias and all forms of inequality. We never peak. We never quit. We never have excuses. We own our failures and we commit to being smarter and stronger because of them. We give our best today and even better tomorrow. We are here to win.

Company Practices / Love

PROGRAMS AND PRACTICES WE GIVE TO OUR EMPLOYEES THAT CREATE A LOVED WORKPLACE ARE …

We have an ERG called Women of Bisnow, Biscred & SelectLeaders: This Employee Resource Group is open to all women and allies. The mission is to enhance recruitment, retention, promotion and professional development of women at BISNOW through networking, mentoring, community outreach and education.
We have a book club where every 6 weeks we vote on which book we want to read. The company pays for the book and we discuss it on an open ZOOM call.
We also recognize that it is important for us to give back to our local communities. Our events are a fantastic way for us to give back. We offer nonprofits the opportunity to run a commercial or jump into the agenda for the event they are attending. We donate digital advertising or event sponsorships (usually booths and/or commercials) to many nonprofit companies. If we host an event at a hotel and they allow us (different rules and protocols) we will donate leftover food to nonprofits that pick up from the hotel. Our teams sponsor different sporting events run by nonprofit businesses to raise money for their local charity. We donate cash to a few causes annually. Lastly, with Habitat for Humanity and Feeding America, we have volunteer days which is a great use of time and doubles as a team bonding day!

CEO Strengths

OUR CEO SERVES AS A MODEL OF OUR COMPANY VALUES BY …

Our CEO, Gregg Mayer, is the epitome of extreme ownership & transparency within the workplace. We were a startup (15+ years ago) and haven’t left that mentality. We have certainly scaled. However, we still get scrappy. We still say “yes” to opportunities outside of our job scope.
As big as we are, we still spend the time making sure we are hiring the right people. When looking for new talent to join our company, we have several priorities. We need to hire people that are accretive to our culture. We look for a fighter personality. One thing that makes us unique in the hiring process is how involved the executive leadership team is. Our CEO likes to ask a specific question in order to evaluate talent around the curveballs that are thrown at you. “You will be challenged to not take the easy way out. Walk me through time where you failed and had to battle out of it?” When we find these individuals, they level up our company.
We end up with partners that want to celebrate one another regardless of department or role. Everyone has a sense of ownership and wants to impact the business regardless of department and level. You aren’t a number. It is quite the opposite. We are a very entrepreneurial-first company. If someone raises their hand and wants to do something or create something then we give them resources to do it. This doesn’t mean you don’t have room to fail. People just make things happen here through the shared ownership & culture of respect we’ve created.

Benefits

EXAMPLES OF UNIQUE BENEFITS, BONUS, OR COMPENSATION WE PROVIDE ARE …

At Bisnow we have very high standards, but also an overwhelming amount of kindness which is hard to measure. You feel the need to be elite, but there is very much a human element. For example, we send out Bisnow baby onesies to our parents with a hand written note, we throw baby showers in offices, we send our newly engaged and married partners champagne, we use slack to celebrate birthdays, career milestones, Bisaversaries and every single revenue win.
We have ways to measure performance that make us unique. We have something called ROCKS at Bisnow. (Think of pushing a rock or boulder up a hill.) These are goals you want to accomplish quarterly set by your manager. These quarterly ROCKs help you focus on specific ways to advance in your career or correct an action to make you a better partner.
Our goal is to win. To win, we must be a high-performance team that practices and celebrates:
1. Exceptional leadership
2. Diverse individuals with strengths and weaknesses that intelligently complement each other
3. An authentic culture driven by aligned values
