Bold Penguin

Why Bold Penguin IS A MOST LOVED WORKPLACE®

Systemic Collaboration

EMPLOYEES COLLABORATE THROUGHOUT OUR COMPANY BY …

creating a collaborative atmosphere that contributes to a strong sense of camaraderie.
Examples are Penguin Palooza, our multi-day in-office events wherein teams participate in either a track with incentivized idea pitch and coding competitions for product improvements, or a track of community service, training & team meetings. These events also give executive leaders the opportunity to solicit speculative enhancements from a different lens. All employees are encouraged to attend in person, with remote options available, and usually exceed projected attendance. Another example of cross-departmental collaboration is company-wide “waddle” meetings that allow everyone to share departmental initiatives on a weekly basis.

Positive Vision of the Future

EMPLOYEES AT OUR COMPANY HAVE A POSITIVE VISION FOR THE FUTURE BECAUSE …

Bold Penguin was born out of innovation. Our platform was a category-creator, the first of its kind, addressing a previously unaddressed need. That spirit of innovation, and the leadership team behind it, propels our continued growth trajectory. Manifestations of these efforts can be found in recognitions such as the Business Insurance’s Best In Insurance Award (2022), Fast Company Best Place To Work For Innovators (2023), the Deloitte Technology Fast 500, and our Founder and CEO was named a 2022 EY Entrepreneur Of The Year East Central Award, just to name a few. Indeed, our future is positive and bright.

Company Respect

WE SHOW RESPECT AND ENSURE THAT ALL VOICES ARE HEARD AND IDEAS ARE VALUED THROUGHOUT THE COMPANY BY …

creating a foundation of mutual respect that has been methodically cultivated, including training programs and workshops that emphasize the importance of DE&I to ensure every employee feels heard. We have five voluntary Employee Resource Groups (ERG), led by a dedicated DE&I and Engagement Lead, that are aimed to provide support, education, and help in personal or career development. Approximately 50% of our employee base participates in one or more ERG. Each ERG has a non-executive leader and an executive sponsor who facilitate dedicated support times and after-hours events. The non-executive leaders enjoy the opportunity to gain valuable leadership experience including planning, communication, and collaboration.

Company Support / Killer Outcomes

WE SUPPORT OUR EMPLOYEES IN ACHIEVING THEIR PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL GOALS BY …

recognizing that an engaged, motivated workforce will continually do their best work. We believe that through growth, we are stronger as a team than we are individually. We provide opportunities for professional development like a comprehensive, employee-informed training program that has a combination of training elements aligned with career progression skills needed, soft skills, DE&I, and leadership. We have also established a culture of mentorship, such as the Women’s Inclusion Network (WIN), an Employee Resource Group, to encourage professional growth and provide a support system for career development.

Alignment of Values

OUR COMPANY’S VALUES ARE ALIGNED WITH OUR EMPLOYEES BECAUSE …

each employee is held accountable. This accountability is upheld through a combination of clear expectations, regular and honest feedback, and a commitment to leading by example. We have established well-defined values that are communicated consistently across all levels of the organization and serve as a guide for everyday decision-making. By acknowledging those who exemplify them, we instill a sense of responsibility and pride in upholding our organizational principles. Regular performance assessments evaluate how employees align with these values, and constructive feedback is provided to reinforce positive behaviors or address any deviations.

Company Practices / Love

PROGRAMS AND PRACTICES WE GIVE TO OUR EMPLOYEES THAT CREATE A LOVED WORKPLACE ARE …

important because they foster a productive and valued atmosphere. Each March, we hold a March of the Penguins employee celebration. We get creative for engagement, such as hot-wings interview panels, inviting employees to share videos of their home office, and voting on employee awards. We hold team-building activities at employee hubs across the country, wellness initiatives, and social events. We incorporate feedback through surveys to ensure initiatives align with evolving aspirations of a diverse workforce, resulting in employee-requested activities including ELTalks, quarterly board summaries, and ERGs. We also recognize the importance of personal well-being by offering a very generous PTO.

CEO Strengths

OUR CEO SERVES AS A MODEL OF OUR COMPANY VALUES BY …

prioritizing and fostering a positive work environment not just from himself, but from all executive leadership team (ELT) members. All ELT members are expected to model the company values of being agile, diverse, authentic, present, and bold. The ELT prioritizes authentic communication (ex. with regularly scheduled company-wide panel discussions where we learn more about them personally, monthly Glacier Health Updates where they report on a balanced scorecard, Quarterly Board Summary reports, and Annual Goal Setting meetings. Just as our products are agile, bold, and authentic, so is our leadership team.

Benefits

EXAMPLES OF UNIQUE BENEFITS, BONUS, OR COMPENSATION WE PROVIDE ARE …

market-competitive salaries, annual performance bonuses for most employees, (funding consistent with the years’ Glacier Health calculation), and comprehensive benefits. We cover 50% of HDHP medical costs for each employee’s plan type;100% of the cost for Dental/Vision/STD & LTD insurance; fully vested safe harbor 401(k) match of 100% of the first 3%, 50% of the next 2% of employee contributions; nine Employee Assistance Program sessions/year, and paid parental leave. We created Bold Penguin Growth Awards, in addition to performance bonuses, designed to recognize our high performers and encourage them to continue to perform at a high level.
