Demonstrating care and respect for each other as people and professionals. Most of our work requires daily interactions through 1:1 touchbases, group meetings, as well as creative and product reviews. We use Slack extensively to communicate easily with one another whether we’re working remotely or in the office. Our offices are setup to feel inviting and comfortable with full-sized desks and various types of collaboration space. In addition to traditional conference rooms, we have areas with open tables, couches and even private outdoor patios in all office locations (even NYC).
Over 90% of our employees report feeling strong pride in working at Boll & Branch. They have a shared belief in our mission to change the way luxury home textiles are sourced, made and purchased backed by a commitment to treat everyone we interact with dignity, respect and kindness – from farmers, to factory workers, to our employees, and to our customers.
Reinforcing a culture of feedback through multiple methods. We encourage employees and managers to discuss feedback regularly in touchbases and through biannual performance reviews. The focus is on employees understanding their performance in terms of both the results they deliver and the behaviors they demonstrated to get those results. This is facilitated through tools like Lattice, which also helps us measure employee engagement. Additionally, our monthly all hands meetings always include peer shout outs to recognize each other’s contributions. We’ve also made DEI a part of our company OKRs, focusing on educating our managers and employees, auditing our People processes and measuring our progress toward fostering a more inclusive and equitable work environment.
Providing formal and informal development. We support employee mobility where individuals can move to new roles on different teams to gain new career experiences. This has happened with members of our CX, Digital, Marketing, Retail, People, and Finance teams. We involve employees in cross-functional projects to drive new business ideas and enhance our culture. Team members at all levels have opportunities to learn through travel to our factories, stores and conferences. We also provide career path learning sessions for leaders to share their experiences and training for specific skills such as giving and receiving feedback.
They are at the forefront of how we work. This starts at the top with our founders, Scott & Missy Tannen, who are very involved in leading the day-to-day business. During hiring and in performance reviews, we assess candidates and employees respectively, for competencies that align with our values.
A combination of ongoing initiatives and perks, giving back to our community, surprise and delight moments, and work environment considerations. We love surprising our employees with some of our new products so they can participate when they launch (e.g. we gave every employee a sleepwear set when that launched). We host an Annual Day of Service for us to come together and volunteer with an organization that helps those in need. We give every employee 2 Community Days per year to take time off work and give back in a way that is important to them personally. We match employee donations to non-profit organizations they support. Our offices are designed to feel welcoming and a place you want to spend time. They have dedicated outdoor space (even in midtown Manhattan), they’re dog friendly, there are always snacks and beverages available, along with company-provided lunch twice a month.
Remaining true to the principles on which he and his wife founded the business. He is a dreamer with a vision, an entrepreneur with a belief that anything is possible if we try, a leader who remains approachable and genuine, and most importantly, a human being who cares about everyone’s well-being (our employees, our customers, our farmers and factory workers).
A high degree of flexibility so each employee can find the best approach to balance their life and work. This is part of our holistic approach to rewards so that we support their overall well-being through monetary and non-monetary means. Another example is the gift employees receive for their first anniversary. We give employees a Boll & Branch mattress, one of our highest value products so they, like our customers, can enjoy a better night’s sleep. We care about our employees’ physical health so we provide a monthly fitness reimbursement for any type of exercise. We believe in rewarding everyone’s performance when the company is successful so every employee is eligible for a year-end bonus that has been paid every year since the program was implemented.
