An open culture, that encourages our people to share their opinion, thoughts and suggestions, we encourage our people to get involved in areas not necessarily where they work. For example, our recent ESG action committee is a mix of people from around the business and their role is not necessarily part of the project, our engagement survey allows honest and transparent feedback on ideas to move our business forward. We are creating more opportunities for our people’s suggestions to be actioned with their involvement each day.
We have recently changed the way we communicated and on the back of our people feedback, the business strategy is clear, talked about at every opportunity and transparent throughout the business. We are started an annual appraisal process where individual goals are aligned to the business strategy (VPD) so that everyone understand show they impact our results. We now feedback to our people on a quarterly basis an update on the business and the different departments, each month, different board members are part of that session, we openly ask for feedback and questions following these sessions.
Our engagement survey provided the annual opportunity to share opinions, thoughts ad suggestions, but we do have an open policy where suggests are encourage to their line manager or the manager of the relevant department. We do ask for our people’s opinions before making a change, we then provide updates using ‘You said, we do’. All suggestions are reviewed, and we provide updates on a regular frequency of their status.
We have created several opportunities for our people to develop in generally areas that would benefit their day job and outside of work, like excel, Microsoft teams and PowerPoint. We train our people with additional technical skills to support the growth of our business and from a wellbeing. Our wellbeing strategy offers those who want to be formally trained as a MHFAs, to support our people and the communities they live in. We are in the middle of creating our succession plans and supporting growth framework, this will highlight opportunities for our people to develop into senior roles over time.
We do not have fixed company values, but as part of our business transformation, we are working on open and honest conversations throughout the business, we understand our people are our priority and at a point in the future, we will bring a group of our people together, to capture what our values are based on the transformation we have just been through. We believe our values will be instilled in our behaviours throughout as we will have growth these.
The involvement of our people in business decisions and changes we want to make is key, this allows an open forum for suggestions to be made, how every small they are. When it comes to supporting the local communities, our people decide who they would like our efforts to benefit, we also ask our people what types of activities they would like to see in the business and from this, annual events like our bake off have become a permanent fixture in our calendar.
Darren empowers his people deliver, challenge, and suggest alternatives in everything we do, allowing people of all levels to grow. He is present in our locations and engages with our people to understand how they are feeling. He also ensures that he gives regular updated to the business on our position and has an open door policy for anyone to go and speak to him.
Our Wellbeing provision, means that no matter what time of day, our people feel support with a number of platforms they can ask for support to a group of MHFAs who are available during their working day to support, by encouraging our people to watch out when not feeling great. In the last year we made a cost-of-living payment to all people to support them with whatever their need was at the time. We also have benefits platform giving reductions of regular expenditure and quarterly people awards to notice & reward greatness.
