We know that connecting and collaborating in person is powerful – it’s what makes us thrive and produce our best work. That’s why we regularly host iconic events for our people at our offices, giving them the opportunity to spend time with their team (and meet new faces too).
Using Slido as an engagement tool, we push live polls, quizzes and word clouds to the devices of our people, as well as giving them an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback. This two-way dialogue helps us to continuously improve our events to make them the best that they can be.

This year, we launched Path to Zero, a better way to do energy, and made sure our people were fully engaged with our strategy and the decarbonisation tools we’re offering our customers. Our eight Belonging Networks have been instrumental in keeping our people well and helping them feel supported. Our networks offer a safe space for people to connect, learn and celebrate their differences, as well as access peer support and advice whenever they need it.
My Progress is our approach to helping our people thrive. As part of My Progress, our people have quarterly check-ins with their people leaders to discuss their goals, progress, development and wellbeing. These are an opportunity to have in-depth, honest and meaningful conversations.
We encourage regular 1:1s where our people drive the agenda, and provide a conversations toolkit with tips, tools and insights for this. Everyone has a personal development plan (PDP) to build self awareness around goals and write down realistic steps on how to achieve these.
Our values guide us as we navigate any situation or challenge. They help shape the way we work and the decisions we make.
‘Do what’s right’ encourages us to be open, honest and fair in everything we do – from talking to our customers to delivering exceptional work.

Our decisions are shaped by our people, with our Belonging Networks making sure the things we do for our people and customers are inclusive and representative of our diverse community.
At the height of the cost-of-living crisis, we fully reviewed our wellbeing support offer, taking a holistic approach to the impact this has on our people’s health and their lives. We articulated seven elements of wellbeing (physical, financial, social, environmental, spiritual, intellectual and emotional) and built a suite of resources for each of these, ensuring our people have access to the right support at the right time.
OVO’s culture is low ego and non-hierarchical. Our mission has always remained the same and our CEO is passionate that we treat our people and planet with respect, empathy and compassion.
This winter, our CEO committed to making three cost of living payments to our people. The number of payments received was dependent on salary levels, supporting those who were feeling the cost of living increase the most. At our Path to Zero event, our CEO called out greenwashing in the industry and set out the steps OVO is taking to build a system fit for the future and for everyone.
