Teammates collaborate throughout our company by working as one team. We believe that when we work as one team, great things happen – which is one of our Culture Commitments. This comes to life in many ways including doing what’s best for the greater good, using all teammates’ talents to achieve more together, and connecting and collaborating with everyone we work with. Each teammate has a unique perspective including skills, talents, background and ways of thinking, and when we come together, we can provide the best care to our patients and the communities we serve.
Teammates at our company have a positive vision because we are innovating to better the now and create the future. Whether it’s translating research into outcomes, renovating business models to deliver better value or work more efficiently, innovation is key to a better future. We love when our teammates share new ideas or ask questions that help us advance our processes. Our teammates know that health care is a constantly changing environment, and that Atrium Health is committed to being a leader of the future.
We show respect and ensure that all voices are heard and ideas are valued throughout the company by our use of one of our most valuable tools: the Atrium Health Voice of the Teammate, an intentional listening strategy for us to gather input from teammates at all levels. In 2021, we designed a new, unique listening tool, the Work Anniversary Engagement Survey, distributed on each teammate’s work anniversary. This allows us to learn on a continuous basis and hone our actions to best support the organization and the individual – which we firmly believe positively impacts caring for our patients.
We support our teammates in achieving their professional and personal goals by first listening actively and continually to the voice of our teammates. We seek to gain clear insights into the goals and aspirations at the individual teammate level, and we continually strive to cultivate a culture where servant leaders focus on serving our teammates through clear and expected leadership behaviors. We work to make resources and development journeys available for all, including educational assistance and scholarships as well as career paths to earn associate degrees or health care related certification.
Our company values are aligned with our teammates because everyone believes their work is more than a job – it’s a calling – where humanity is at the center of everything we do. We are an organization OF ALL and dedicated FOR ALL…where our people – teammates, patients and community members – come first. Because of this, our Culture Commitments come alive:
We create a space where all Belong. We Work as One Team to make great things happen. We earn Trust in all we do. We Innovate to better the now and create the future. We drive for Excellence – always.
What propels us forward is not just to be a national leader…but to champion compassion, embody empathy and harness hope.
…many, and include health programs, recognition opportunities and appreciation gifts to help teammates feel supported while at work and during their time off. Our health programs include well-being campaigns to highlight healthy living, paid time off for preventive wellness exams, parental leave, financial assistance for adoption and more. We believe it is important to recognize teammates for their incredible work and do that through eCards, peer-to-peer honors, an annual teammate talent show and our highest honor – the Pinnacle Award. Each year we also share an appreciation gift to celebrate our teammates. Past gifts include backpacks, coolers and umbrellas.
Our CEO serves as a model of our company values by setting the north star for how teammates and leaders must operate to successfully achieve our mission. He sets the direction, but more importantly, he is an example in the way he leads and cares for our entire workforce as a collection of unique individuals with needs and aspirations. In launching our Culture Commitments as a foundational set of values for how we operate, he said “The ask that I have of each of you, every single one of you, is that you become Chief Culture Enabling Officers.” All leaders must go through the framework: Servant Leadership, Leadership Point of View, Situational Leadership and Coach to Success. Together, these programs equip leaders with the mindset, skillset and toolset to continually drive our desired culture.
…a monetary incentive to all COVID-19 vaccine compliant (or qualified exemption) teammates who are on our health plan. In 2022 we are investing $180 million in bonuses for all patient-facing roles such as clinical teams and support services. Atrium Health has also been on a journey since 2012, to raise the minimum wage across our enterprise ($16 an hour in the Carolinas and $13.50 in Georgia/Alabama). We also want to support our teammates’ financial future and annually provide a contribution to 401(k) plans on top of matching. Based on years of service, all teammates who work at least 1,000 hours receive this contribution into their retirement account.
