Aligning their work with the company’s mission to help people get care, stay well, and build healthy communities. Our mission serves as our compass for alignment and gives our associates a sense of purpose. Our company cares about the people we serve and energizes them to have a more significant impact on the work they do. A passion for this work creates opportunities for collaboration to find solutions for better ways of working and operational efficiency. Associates come together to creatively problem-solve and create solutions that can be leveraged in their daily work and across the enterprise.
In 2020, our CEO, Paul Tufano, launched a dynamic 5-year strategy that helped align all associates to ACFC’s vision. Our vision is to be a leader in helping those in need, from wellness to resilience, so we put our members and their families first. We work to improve not only the health of our members but also the economic and social issues that can act as barriers to proper care. Our slogan is “care is the heart of our work®,” and associates love our company and are committed to supporting local communities through the company’s volunteering, fundraising, and community education programs. Our associates are excited by the growth trajectory of the company as well as the connectedness to the mission that drives a sense of camaraderie among associates and a feeling that they are giving back to the communities.
Associates are recognized and rewarded for their contributions and ability to impact the organization. We actively engage our associates for their opinions through multiple feedback venues such as our organizational health survey and Diversity Equity Inclusion assessment. These resources provide rich insight from all levels and underscore the value we see in our associates and their perspectives. Our associates expressed high trust in our company and feel they have meaningful interactions with leadership. Both sentiments are essential to empowering individuals to participate in decision-making and share innovative new ideas. Additionally, our annual Better Way Challenge encourages associates to share their ideas for improvement at all levels of the organization.
While associates come because of the mission, they stay because our company prides itself in promoting from within. We heavily invest in development opportunities like training, mentorship, and expanding our diversity, equity, and inclusion commitments to develop leadership skills and prepare our associates to succeed in their careers and to advance up the ranks. We have senior leaders who rose through the ranks, and they are equally committed to developing talent and creating similar opportunities for others. We continue to implement initiatives to unlock our full potential and enable us to achieve our vision for AmeriHealth Caritas and its associates.
Our mission and values are often cited as the most common reason people are attracted to AmeriHealth Caritas. Our mission is to help people get care, stay well, and build healthy communities across the country —Candidates seek organizations whose work aligns with their values; it drives a “connectedness” to their work, resulting in greater job satisfaction and a sense of purpose. Our organization’s values of inclusion and empowerment are more than just words at AmeriHealth Caritas but woven into the organization’s fabric, the way we work, and how we reward and recognize associates. Our associates want to make a positive difference in the lives of our members.
We continue to implement initiatives to unlock our full potential and enable us to achieve our vision for AmeriHealth Caritas. We are shaping and implementing strategies and practices that will formalize our behaviors, values, and beliefs; shape our desired culture; and evolve the organization toward that vision over time. Our firm commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is demonstrated by our leaders’ commitment to educating themselves on anti-racism and sponsoring our Associate Resource Groups. This commitment extends to our associates through LinkedIn’s Allyship Academy, which helps to create a common language and experience around DEI and what it means to AmeriHealth Caritas.
Focusing on what matters to our members and associates. Paul is committed to eliminating poverty and shows this commitment by aligning the organization's work with this vision. Paul is dedicated to removing social barriers and health inequities that limit access to resources and prohibit our members' ability to achieve their American Dream. To show his commitment, he has made a significant investment in grassroots community-based organizations like Wider Circle and created a Social Determinants of Life® Strategy that aligns our work from being more than a healthcare company but an organization that helps our members address barriers to getting essentials like food, shelter, transportation, health care, and social support.
Holistic whole-person benefits package that addresses our associate's physical wellness, emotional well-being, and financial needs. Our annual incentive plan has financial and non-financial performance targets that align with our mission, like impacting social determinants of health and championing volunteerism through our associate volunteer program, Care Crew, which affords up to 8 hours of paid volunteer time. Our bonus plan acknowledges every associate's vital role in our success and incentivizes them at a level that aligns with their capabilities. Our goal is to reward all associates for their efforts.
