The heart and soul of City Winery is to bring people together and fuse the joys of life to curate amazing experiences – music, food, wine, and events. This mission is delivered by the conscious teamwork and shared coordination of our internal ecosystem working together. City Winery teams are highly cross-collaborative across departments and venues, host upstanding pre-shift and team meetings, “zoom” together and reputably ‘bring the shows to life’ everyday by working collectively.
Our Founder & CEO, Michael Dorf, is a forward-thinking visionary that is open about the exciting growth and future plans for City Winery. Each year Michael hosts BASECAMP, an annual leadership conference where company-wide management joins together to regroup and refocus on the year ahead and future of City Winery. The goal of Basecamp is to propel the organization forward so we can climb up the mountain and reach the summit as a unified group. Beginning in 2022, the Company plans to open 4 additional locations and eventually expand into international territory in the coming years. With growth comes endless opportunities for City Winery employees!
We believe infusing diversity and inclusion into the workplace engine and creating a work environment where everyone has a voice is key to “Creating the Vibe” each day. Employees have access to local and senior leadership, department and locally held meetings, and the added resources of national partners to support the day to day.
City Winery thrives on creating Infinite Potential for our employees. The career opportunities have proven to be limitless and developing leaders from within the organization is fermented in our core values. We have employees who started as servers and have grown into national multi-unit leaders, and even up to executives. Growing talent from within is our favorite way to recruit and many of our team members have successfully advanced and progressed their careers internally. As we say, City Winery is the place to “Uncork Your Potential”.
In the same way that the brand cultivates a unique experience to blend together music, food, wine and events, the employee experience elicits a similar sensation. Every employee has the opportunity to fuse their passion, power, purpose, and pressure in one space and be their own creative pioneers. We remain committed and deliver on our core values, such as Developing Leaders from Within.
City Winery employees have access to a multitude of different programs such as complimentary family meals every day for staff, turkey giveaway to each employee around Thanksgiving, wine bottle gifts for the holidays, and taking great pride in diversity and inclusion by recognizing employees during holidays such as PRIDE, International Women’s Day, and more. We celebrate National Employee Appreciation Day across the entire organization each year. And of course, the core of the organization is steeped in philanthropy and giving back. Annually, employees recognize MLK Jr Day as “A Day of Service” and have the opportunity to participate in volunteer activities which brings staff together, smiles to faces, and contributions to our communities.
Michael Dorf says it best; he is a strong believer in the concept of Tikkun Olam, Hebrew for “repair the world”. He has anchored the organization in philanthropy and strongly believes in being a conscious business. What goes around, comes around and we have a role in caring for, nourishing, and helping repair the world. Over the years, Michael has been a leader in generously donating and leveraging resources to help environmental and philanthropic efforts whenever possible in creative and helpful ways for the communities.
We are always reevaluating to ensure we are presenting best in class employee offerings such as competitive wages, free dining and concert experiences for all staff, discounts on retail merchandise, health insurance benefits and paid time off to qualifying employees, learning and developing opportunities including wine education trainings, 401K Retirement Fund and Company match, and nDORFins, a creative health and fitness stipend perk inspired by our own CEO (Michael DORF!).
Safeguarding the health and wellbeing of our people remains a top priority. City Winery took immediate action in ensuring the safety practices were instituted proactively at the outset of the pandemic. We implemented wellness checks and temperature screens, mask/testing/ vaccine mandates, offered rapid testing onsite to staff and guests at designated venues, provided COVID pay and Vaccine Pay for qualifying employees, and continue to enforce rigorous sanitation and cleaning standards as we come out of the pandemic.
Established in 2008 by Founder and CEO Michael Dorf, City Winery strives to deliver the highest-end combined culinary and cultural experience to our customers who are passionate in sharing wine, music, and culinary arts. We are a unique facility, combining a fully functioning winery with intimate concerts, food & wine classes, private events in a variety of configurations, and fine dining. We have created a compelling mix for our sophisticated clientele of foodies, and active cultural patrons—bringing the wine country experience to the middle of a large city.
