As a global company with associates spanning 24 countries, we have built a “One Team” culture using digital collaboration tools like Microsoft Teams, Yammer, and Sharepoint. Most of our projects involve cross-functional teams across geographies, rallying around our mantra of “one team, one mission.” To drive this home, there is robust leadership engagement at the team level to drive connectivity and partnership on projects and learning. We share stories, recognition, and wins with our associates to show the positive impact of collaboration for our company and our clients.
Our associates understand and believe in the unique value proposition Conduent brings to its clients, and they believe in our go-forward strategy and growth plan. In fact, ‘Clarity of direction’ has consistently been among our highest scoring categories in our annual engagement survey the past two years. In line with our values, we create opportunities for our associates to make a difference for millions of end users – and our associates understand the role they play in shaping our company’s future. The shift in our culture over the past three years brought about our CEO Cliff Skelton and our executive team, the improved financial and operational performance of our company, the positive feedback from our clients, and our strong focus on ESG practices, have sparked a strong sense of optimism, energy, and confidence across our workforce.
Our associates engage with global colleagues, ask questions, and share stories, ideas, and recognition through our internal social media platform. In addition, our eight global Employee Impact Groups serve as an active and pervasive vehicle for the sharing of diverse ideas and perspectives around a range of business and social issues. We also encourage dialogue through Q&A sessions with leaders and, more formally, through associate surveys. Sharing associate voices and stories with the external marketplace via digital and social media is a key part of our work – in fact, one of our programs is named “Voices of Conduent.” We are proud of the multiple workplace and culture recognitions we have received including being named to Forbes’ list of America’s Best 500 Employers for Diversity and achieving 100% on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index (HRC CEI-2021)
We create an environment where our employees can grow and thrive through new and challenging experiences as well as formal learning and skill development through our market-leading learning platform. In combination with regular career and development discussions between associates and managers, we share stories about associates who grow their career, leadership journeys that are authentic and motivating, and advice on how to take professional skills to the next level. Within our Technology organization, we have an early career program where new hires are accelerated through application development roles to fast-track their career. Associates also have access to our Employee Impact Groups, where they can network, learn, participate in mentorship programs, and volunteer time to help their communities.
Our associates are at the heart of our business as the vast majority of them directly interact with our clients and/or their customers. We believe if we treat our associates well and demonstrate strong values they will then treat our clients the same way. We demonstrate this starting with the hiring and onboarding process and reinforce through training, performance management, career development and recognition programs. We then measure through associate experience surveys, focus groups, and exit interviews. Our values are simple, straightforward, human and approachable to ensure that they are inclusive and easy for every associate, regardless of their role or location, to apply them to their work and how they interact with others.
Across each region, we offer unique programs and opportunities for our associates to engage with each other and our local communities to learn, volunteer, and make a difference. In India, we have an EXCELerate Program to celebrate talent, build industry connections, showcase regional capabilities, and promote associate wellbeing and giving back to the community. In North America, associates have free access to our Employee Assistance Program which offers a host of well-being benefits and programs, as well as assistance with financial planning. In some regions, where transportation is challenging, we have hired buses to enable our associates to easily get to their work location. Globally, we host wellness webinars focusing on mental health and emotional well-being. And our Employee Impact Groups host a variety of monthly events for learning, having fun, and creating space for appreciation and recognition of our diversity. The use of pronouns in our email signatures and the use of ‘preferred names’ in our human capital systems are recent examples of practices our associates have embraced.
Our CEO leads the way with our Core Values and was an integral collaborator in creating them. He role models our values on how he manages our executive team, with a tremendous focus on teamwork and operating as One Conduent. In fact, as we review lessons learned, our CEO will begin with what he, himself, could have done better which creates an environment where all associates can be authentic and find ways to improve. In every interaction with associates, he references the values that underpin and define our culture and shares his perspectives on how those values are exemplified, nurtured, and reinforced each day across the company. His authentic, personable style and ability to connect the dots between the values and how they relate to our business helps associates see that how we do things is just as important as what we accomplish together.
We provide a full suite of healthcare benefits and insurance to our employees. In addition, flexible work arrangements, including both remote work and hybrid options, flexible vacation plans, medical staff on-site or in close-proximity at select company locations, and performance-based incentive plans for our hourly associates are among some of our benefits. Through a range of programs and digital world-class learning platforms we enable our associates to learn anywhere, anytime on a wide range of topics encompassing professional, business and technology skills. We also bring external speakers and experts - such as Pandit Dasa - a former monk to address topics related to overall well-being.
During the pandemic, we have worked closely with our leaders around the world to ensure our employees are supported. In fact, our CIO received a gold Stevie Award for “Leading through digital disruption” as we moved 40,000 associates to a work-from-home model in the span of 6 weeks. Many of our employees shifted to a flexible and hybrid work environment and continue to work from home even today. For essential workers with on-site roles, we provided a user-friendly health screening app (U.S.) and modified work locations and practices to enable social distancing and additional cleaning to help ensure their health and safety. In India and Philippines, where we have large employee populations, we set up support and access to medical equipment, testing facilities, virtual doctor consultations and mental health professionals as well as privileges at partner hospitals. We also enhanced our sick leave policy specifically for those that were exposed or contracted Covid.
