Fulcrum Asset Management

Why Fulcrum Asset Management IS A MOST LOVED WORKPLACE®

Systemic Collaboration

EMPLOYEES COLLABORATE THROUGHOUT OUR COMPANY BY …

One of Fulcrum’s core values is collaboration, chosen because it truly describes the way things work throughout the business . Many of our projects cross multiple functions and the reason we are able to innovate, win mandates from significant clients and respond rapidly to our changing world is because every employee is ready to help, and ask for help, from others. We have a regular series of communications events that give employees and teams a chance to share what they are working on, their achievements or their unique skills and interests. These are well attended, and we are inundated with requests to host sessions. The result is an increased understanding of how the whole business works together and an increased respect for the skills and responsibilities across the company.

Positive Vision of the Future

EMPLOYEES AT OUR COMPANY HAVE A POSITIVE VISION FOR THE FUTURE BECAUSE …

We try our hardest to make Fulcrum an enjoyable and rewarding place to work. One of the most striking differences to many other organisations is that at Fulcrum there is a genuine desire to create an environment of mutual respect across the entire business. Everyone has a role to play and is respected for that responsibility, which results in a united workforce with a high degree of positivity. The end result is a highly motivated and productive team that is generating fantastic results.

Company Respect

WE SHOW RESPECT AND ENSURE THAT ALL VOICES ARE HEARD AND IDEAS ARE VALUED THROUGHOUT THE COMPANY BY …

In addition to the series of communications events we run, we host an annual employee survey to capture thoughts and feedback from every employee in the company. We follow this up with focus groups (volunteers and randomly selected individuals) to encourage further insight into experiences and ideas across the organisation. We commit to listening and responding and in the majority of areas we implement the recommendations (examples include the changing of our core hours policy from 8.30-6.00 to 9.00-5.30, implementation of enhanced benefits, introduction of our quarterly townhalls).

Company Support / Killer Outcomes

WE SUPPORT OUR EMPLOYEES IN ACHIEVING THEIR PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL GOALS BY …

All employees are encouraged to think about developing and enhancing their capabilities through ongoing professional development. We support their ambitions both financially and through the allocation of study time for role-related and progression-related qualifications.

Alignment of Values

OUR COMPANY’S VALUES ARE ALIGNED WITH OUR EMPLOYEES BECAUSE …

They wrote them!! We asked our employees to describe what are the best attributes of our company and they told us. We then refined these to five specific values and descriptions of what we mean by them, using our employees own words. [can we include the 5 values?]

Company Practices / Love

PROGRAMS AND PRACTICES WE GIVE TO OUR EMPLOYEES THAT CREATE A LOVED WORKPLACE ARE …

We have a number of wellbeing initiatives that help create a workplace that people love, these include; weekly fitness classes (badminton, 5-a-side football, boot-camp and yoga). Massage sessions, discounts on gym membership and access to counselling in person/virtually if things get tough. We provide breakfast and lunch onsite, a host of healthy snacks and drinks to accommodate all tastes. We run clubs that are employee-led (book club, wine club, culture club, cycling club…) which create a great sense of being able to bring your whole-self to work and balance working hard with having fun with colleagues. We arrange quarterly socials giving us time to let our hair down and socialise as a team. On a monthly and quarterly basis, we host business updates, informing all our people on our goals and our progress against these. We communicate changes ahead, recognise significant events (work anniversaries) and achievements (passing qualifications, university graduations, winning new clients). We provide special days off to allow people to reserve their holiday for taking a break and give them time to do other significant things in their life (moving home, children starting new school, volunteering days, getting married). We listen to our employees. Each year after our employee survey results are returned we ask a third of our organisation for their thoughts and ideas on how we can make this an even better place to work and we take it seriously, implementing many of the suggestions they make.

CEO Strengths

OUR CEO SERVES AS A MODEL OF OUR COMPANY VALUES BY …

For Joe (managing partner) and Suhail (chief investment officer), being role models for Fulcrum’s company values is something which comes very naturally to both. They have a huge amount of enthusiasm for cementing the values throughout the organisation and have found the easiest way is to walk the walk and demonstrate these values themselves day-to-day.

About the Company

Founded in 2004, Fulcrum is a highly innovative, independent asset manager with a broad range of investment capabilities. All of our strategies seek to provide returns that are complementary and have a low sensitivity to equities and bonds. Our solutions provide diversified, risk managed investments covering all the major global asset classes. Through our Solutions Team we manage bespoke mandates on behalf of pension funds, institutions and charities. Ultimately our aim is to provide balance in an ever-changing world.
As an investment house, we are large enough to enjoy economies of scale and the breadth of expertise but equally we are nimble enough to be able to respond quickly to market events or alter course whenever we see opportunities. At the same time, we have the ability to adapt and innovate in a way that many larger firms might find challenging. Through our unique and transparent investment approach, our aim is to build lasting relationships that are aligned with our clients’ interests and which seek to deliver on their investment objectives.
Our people are at the heart of our business and we have built the Fulcrum partnership into a team of around 100 people. In addition to our main headquarters in the UK, we also have offices in the US, and Japan with a growing presence in Europe.
