We meet as a team weekly to discuss openly and transparently about company goals, challenges, wins and setbacks. While we are a remote company, we hold in person retreats 2-3 times per year in amazing locations to collaborate, celebrate and have fun!

In addition we have an employee DEI Council whose mission is to be a representative and diverse body that builds sustainable and attainable changes both within Hu and within our ecosystem. They aim to cultivate a space for open and honest conversations to help everyone bring their full selves to work.
Providing a $1,000 per year learning & development stipend to all full time employees. We provide executive coaching and team trainings, as we believe that every single employee is a leader. We rewrite job descriptions on a yearly basis, providing a career path for every employee, and paths to promotions. We conduct “stay interviews” to better understand how our employees envision their success at Hu, and how our leaders can better support them.
We hire for not only Value, but Values. Our team is comprised of humans who genuinely believe in the products we make and our mission. Our interview process takes each of our Values into consideration, as well as our robust onboarding program. Our Values are ever-present in every decision we make – from where we source our ingredients, to our partners and practices. Our performance reviews evaluate not only the value our employees contributed, but also how they embodied our values in their work and collaboration.
We believe that people don’t leave bad jobs, they leave because of bad leaders, poor management and lack of growth and appreciation. With this in mind, we provide executive coaching to the entire organization, a robust manager training program, and continuous learning and education, both personally and professionally for our entire team.
We recently started a Culture Captains program – each city with 2 or more employees nominates a Culture Captain to organize a social event and volunteer event in their city. This allows folks to see each other in person and spend quality time outside the “office” together!
Our Values are referenced constantly, whether in an email from the CEO, our leadership team kicking off a meeting, or in private manager conversations. Our CEO and Leadership team is made up of leaders who have a growth mindset – we practice “servant leadership”. Our leaders lead with empathy, listen, and have a commitment to the learning and development of their teams. Our leaders admit when they are wrong, ask great questions, and care deeply and genuinely for every HUman on our team. Our CEO leads the Business Philosophy and Values onboarding for all new employees!
Rooted in our Humanity value, we encourage our employees to give back! We offer a volunteer program, encouraging employees to volunteer with local organizations, and by doing so, earning additional PTO days. We offer No Meeting Fridays to allow for a day of concentration at the end of the week, and during the summer, offer Summer Fridays (Fridays off) to allow for balance and rest. Sweetest of all, our employees get free chocolate!
In terms of compensation, we pay according to the role, a person’s experience, and what they, as humans, bring to the table, not based on a college degree, where they live, or what they earned prior to joining us.
