Living one of our company values, “We’re respectfully blunt.” By encouraging an honest, open dialogue, our employees feel supported to bring their opinions, ideas and feedback to every project they work on. By communicating with their teammates through the software and resources Hudl provides, such as Slack, Google’s suite of products and our internal intranet, every department can collaborate efficiently and effectively. We also have a focus on growth, giving each employee access to continued learning opportunities that will help them improve their skills and enhance their experience at Hudl.
Everyone is on the same page about the company’s future. Every year, leadership gives an update on our company goals, mission, purpose and strategic themes, so we can all stay aligned on the vision we’re working to make a reality. We discuss why it matters, how we’ll get there and how every employee’s work will impact that vision. On any given day, we’re all able to see where we’re going with weekly leadership briefings, monthly team all-hands, quarterly product alignments and biannual all-company retreats.
Working to promote an inclusive and open environment. Annually, we have an all-company engagement survey and manager upward feedback opportunity. The results are then shared in an all-company discussion. We have several ERGs that champion inclusion while giving individuals places to share their lived experiences. These ERGs focus on increasing awareness and education on a variety of topics through activities like book clubs and guest speaker presentations.
Offering options to support and promote continued education. We have an online library of curated books from our own employees, and a set of courses in our own Hudl University that are taught by subject matter experts at the company. Every year, we specify certain “timeout” days that are meeting-free, giving people a chance to dive deep and focus without distractions. We also set aside one hour a month for GOAL (go online and learn) time, to give employees a built-in reminder to focus on their own development.
We truly live our values. The values aren’t just words on a wall, they’re how we get work done. Every quarter we hold value award nominations to celebrate the employees who went above and beyond to represent a company value. We share the winners in all-company meetings to recognize the impact of both the person and the value.
Numerous! In addition to our ERGs that give people a place to learn from each other and discuss important topics, we also have a multitude of employee-led Hudl Communities and Slack channels for almost any interest you can think of. So whether you’re a parent or you love cycling, dogs or creating artwork, you’ll find people who share that passion. We’ve invested in our offices to make them some of the most awesome working environments you’ve ever seen, full of lounges, meeting rooms, collaborative spaces and heads-down hideaways. Each is equipped with technology to bring team members from anywhere in the world into the same space. We hold in-person events throughout the year, to give our employees opportunities to be social and have fun with their colleagues—things like holiday parties, outings to sporting events, and even Hudl Week, a global get-together for our employees from all over the world.
Weaving our values into daily conversation and decisions. Even small decisions, like never having formal offices for leadership, highlight that we all “Win together.” Our CEO is always just a Slack message away and encourages questions and open dialogue. He answers phone calls with our Support team twice a year, showing that he still “Thrives on the front lines.” But the values are there in more impactful, “big” decisions too, like his people-over-profit approach to our COVID-19 response. More so, he doesn’t aggrandize himself through these actions—he just does them because they’re the right thing to do.
Unlimited PTO, which gives employees the opportunity to take breaks whenever they need; a “work from anywhere” policy, which provides the chance to work from anywhere in the world for four weeks a year; paid sabbaticals for every five-year anniversary an employee reaches; a health insurance plan that covers 100% of employee premiums; family forming care coverage; paid parental leave; company wide, week-long breaks in July and December; free lunch every day at Hudl HQ in Lincoln, Nebraska, and weekly free lunches at our Omaha and London offices; a stipend for remote employees to level up their home office; and some of the best looking swag you’ll ever see.
