…effectively communicating between all departments – purchasing, marketing, sales, transportation, production, and warehousing. Though we may be in different locations, we keep an open line of communication at the top of our priority list to run the most efficient business we can. We work together on creating innovative projects that can potentially make our customers happy, manufacturing these items with extensive quality control, marketing the product to our customers, and communicating how to seamlessly distribute the product.
…what we manufacture makes a difference. It’s our vision to lead a sustainable and organic future, spread positive brand messaging, promote transparency, and support our employees. Because we are vertically integrated, employees can move around and try new things if they feel inclined to do so. We focus on upward mobility, so there aren’t a lot of barriers between each department. The little things they do are making a difference. Furthermore, we’ve been good about issuing stock to the employees and equity stakes in the company. They have ownership in the company’s future.
… keeping an open line of communication in various ways. Whether we have department-wide meetings, send out surveys, take walks, participate in happy hour, or any other form of a checkpoint, we make ourselves approachable and available to employees so they feel comfortable enough to speak up. We have a very vibrant review schedule where both the employee and the manager fill out a comprehensive analysis about how they feel things are going. They can chat about methods of growing within the company, ideas and suggestions they have to make the company better, and whatever else is on their mind.
…giving them the room to grow and thrive in a work environment that is supportive and adaptable. At LesserEvil, we encourage our employees to try new things, engage within different departments, and find what works for them. We also offer ESL and computer classes to those who feel they may need extra assistance. We are huge on health and wellness, so we provide enriching benefits, such as yoga classes, to help promote balance and mindfulness.
…we put out what we believe and are very loud about it. Given that, we attract the people who have those same values. Our values include innovation, product quality, plant-based, transparency, sustainability, and culture. Together, we have a unification of understanding curiosity and kin, and it makes us a strong force that employees are attracted to.
… two yoga classes a week for all employees, encouraging movement throughout the day (i.e., scheduling walking meetings instead of at a desk), smoothie bar in the kitchen, connection to our CEO (he visits our production facility daily, sits in our open concept office, and is always able for one-on-one meetings), giving back to our community with seasonal company-sponsored volunteering opportunities, opportunities for professional development + promoting from within (94% of our supervisors/managers have been promoted from within), and Employee Appreciation day activities (i.e., bringing in a mini-golf course INTO the office).
…leading by example. Charles knows that one person cannot change people’s behavior. Rather, one has to show them the model of which to live by. Charles inspires by being the change he wants to see. He provides an environment where people can flourish and space that is collaborative, cheery, and bright. He makes sure there is an open-door policy so employees feel heard and as comfortable as possible. Given that brand is a reflection of what’s going on within the company, all design is in house, so the brand and design comes from employees.
…yoga, professional in-house haircuts and blowouts, hourly employees get their birthday off in addition to their allotted PTO, quality control program that includes swag and cash rewards for stellar work, and opportunities for continuing education (company paid classes/workshops/etc.)
