MAPP

Why MAPP IS A MOST LOVED WORKPLACE®

Systemic Collaboration

EMPLOYEES COLLABORATE THROUGHOUT OUR COMPANY BY …

working together toward a common goal fuelled by our company’s carefully considered values.

High trust, healthy conflict, commitment, clear accountability and results are the key markers of our culture that set us apart and energise us.These values are intrinsic, embedded both vertically and horizontally in our organisation allowing for the free flow of ideas, communication, discussions, and feedback. At MAPP, personal connection is key. With our people sprinkled across five offices and nearly 1,000 managed properties around the UK, we believe personal connection is fundamental to maintaining our culture, people-first ethos and competitive edge.

That’s why we’re intentional about building touchpoints with our people through live company events, fun away days, town hall meetings, and importantly a fully engaged community on our internal comms platform. A space where people share their daily work lives, the victories, the challenges and receive and provide support and encouragement.
Our offices play a core part in supporting collaboration and building a strong and engaged community.
In recent years, MAPP has invested and expanded our workspaces into world-class facilities to create healthy and vibrant spaces that encourage connection, relationship and service delivery. These spaces have increased biophilia, adaptable and flexible meeting spaces, drop-in areas and community zones. Meeting rooms have independent air quality and temperature controls, video conferencing technologies and exceptional ergonomics.

Positive Vision of the Future

EMPLOYEES AT OUR COMPANY HAVE A POSITIVE VISION FOR THE FUTURE BECAUSE …

MAPP operates as a force for good, adding value to our clients, occupiers and society as a whole.

As a B Corp, we meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. This is realised in our general business practices, the manner in which we engage with our people, and how our people engage with others. Each team member knows they are instrumental in changing our industry, improving our company and positively impacting our clients, suppliers, and the environment — MAPP diligently provides the platform and tools to do so.

Our values, our performance and the overall vision for the direction of the company are regularly communicated and brought to life by our CEO and the Senior Executive Board through our bi-annual LIVE CEO updates and monthly town halls hosted by Senior Directors. New joiners spend a day with our CEO, Chief of Staff and Head of People being introduced to the vision, corporate objectives and values of the business.

Company Respect

WE SHOW RESPECT AND ENSURE THAT ALL VOICES ARE HEARD AND IDEAS ARE VALUED THROUGHOUT THE COMPANY BY …

recognising that we are all individuals and encouraging the mindset that everyone is welcome and wanted.

At a corporate level, we have done extensive work to ensure we’re an inclusive and diverse business. MAPP doesn’t aspire to follow benchmarks, but instead, we task ourselves with being market leaders, leading by example starting from within. We take our company’s temperature regularly through anonymised culture amp surveys to get an accurate and unbiased view of how our people are feeling, their expectations and suggestions for improvements we can make. Feedback is diligently reviewed and actions are swiftly followed through.

Great examples of resulting improvements are: the introduction of a dental plan, the expansion of our charity and social value crew, and extensive changes to our workspaces. These and many more provide avenues that allow our senior team as a whole to access the wider opinions across the company.

Company Support / Killer Outcomes

WE SUPPORT OUR EMPLOYEES IN ACHIEVING THEIR PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL GOALS BY …

providing each person with the opportunity to invest in their own development.

MAPP provides training programmes to each team member to enhance their professional knowledge and upskill on a variety of subjects and courses, based on annual feedback from each person and their line manager to create an individual-and-company learning plan.

We give each person five learning days per year for their own development. We pay for RICS and other professional memberships for our people. MAPP places equal value on personal and professional development.

Our People team hand-select benefits which address the needs of the whole person; considering factors such as mental, physical, financial, and emotional well-being. For example access to dedicated 24/7 mental health advice and guidance as well as specialist services providing mortgage, debt and wealth advice.

We encourage our people to take two charity days per year to invest in a cause close to their hearts. And for those fundraising for a registered UK charity, we match fundraising up to £350 per person.

Alignment of Values

OUR COMPANY’S VALUES ARE ALIGNED WITH OUR EMPLOYEES BECAUSE …

MAPP is a values-driven business.

Our values are highlighted and championed throughout our recruitment process and throughout everyone’s time at MAPP. We measure performance and output as well as values and behaviour in our review cycle which happens multiple times in the year. These shared values underpin all of our activities and interactions.

Company Practices / Love

PROGRAMS AND PRACTICES WE GIVE TO OUR EMPLOYEES THAT CREATE A LOVED WORKPLACE ARE …

In June, 2023 MAPP announced that it will move to becoming an Employee-Owned Trust. For the longest time, MAPP’s CEO and Managing Director have held the view that they should not retain their shareholding and ownership in the company indefinitely, and instead place it in the hands of the people who live and breathe our values and are the architects and stewards of our reputation – our people. The MAPP Employee-Owned Trust (EOT) will also continue to channel a growing proportion of its profits to the MAPP Charitable Foundation, a grant-making registered charity focusing on young people, mental health and environmental initiatives nationwide.

MAPP holds an annual awards ceremony to celebrate our ‘Unsung Heroes’ and ‘Super Heroes’ nominated by fellow colleagues who have gone over and above the call of duty.

We love to celebrate milestones with our people and acknowledge the hardships life throws at us: Whether we’re celebrating a new addition to the family, a wedding, or grieving the loss of a parent/child or an illness; we acknowledge and support our people with little tokens of gratitude to demonstrate that we stand behind our people.

Our people love to be together: That’s why MAPP arranges a plethora of events year-round. From summer and Christmas parties, bi-annual all-company meetings, conferences, away days, monthly themed office drinks, and mini-events tied to special calendar days e.g. ‘National Pancake Day’. This year MAPP celebrated its milestone/landmark anniversary – the 25th year – together with our offices as a thank-you for a decade of excellence, breaking industry norms and a truly reimagined way of teamwork and collaboration.

Charity Days: We give each person two charity days a year to invest in making the world a better place for people.

We’ve introduced a MAPP Hardship Fund for MAPP team members in financial distress.

CEO Strengths

OUR CEO SERVES AS A MODEL OF OUR COMPANY VALUES BY …

being available and connected to all our people and championing our values and culture.

He’s a bold leader, who doesn’t shy away from tough conversations and is known for being open and transparent. He invests time in the team, welcomes new starters personally on our Values Day, and is ever present at company meetings, and away days.

Nigel holds end-of year-speeches to show appreciation for the great work delivered and results achieved and is a huge advocate of coming together and celebrating as a team. He is engaged with our community and shares his latest endeavours in a weekly, often humorous update, which keeps people informed and included. He is an ambassador and advocate of MAPP’s unique and people-centric culture and encourages people to bring their real selves to work. Nigel not only talks about the values of the company, he embodies them.
