In 2022, the Company announced a new program to make vacationing even better through Abound by Marriott Vacations®, giving travelers access to thousands of unique experiences, vacation homes, cruises, culinary tours, and more. Additionally, we are using advanced data and analytics to power curated vacation experiences and enhance innovation.
Our annual Associate Engagement Survey provides feedback on management styles and processes that strengthen culture, along with opportunities for improvement. In 2022, 91% of associates participated, and our engagement score earned us a Kincentric Best Employer designation. We addressed the top areas of opportunity and created action plans to show associates we listened. For example, when survey respondents rated Inclusion & Diversity (I&D) as important to them, we developed an Executive Inclusion Council to champion I&D initiatives across the organization and implemented new inclusive leadership training and a series of events to bring people together and celebrate diversity.
We cultivate a learning-rich environment where associates are encouraged to create individual development plans, grow their careers, and succeed professionally and personally while cultivating rich experiences for our Owners, members, and guests. The Company conducts succession planning and offers a Leadership Development Program to provide associates with the tools, resources, and practice necessary to be successful leaders. In 2022, 2,243 associates were promoted globally into new roles. We also offer college internship programs, after which many interns are hired into permanent positions, bringing new perspectives and ideas to our business.
Our values of Caring Culture, Integrity First, Excellence Always, Customer Obsessed, and Better Together provide the framework for an inclusive, diverse workplace where we support the development of our associates. Women make up 54% of our global workforce and, in the U.S., people of color comprise 45% of our management team and 66% of associates are racially diverse. Our leadership pipelines are supported by the Venture to Leadership Program, which develops a diverse group of high-potential associates through mentoring and coaching.
Associate Appreciation is an annual celebration that honors associate contributions to the Company with events focused on camaraderie, recognition, team building, and serving the community. In 2022, celebrations spanned 212 sites and 17 countries. Our Caring Culture was exemplified during Associate Appreciation when associates prepared 4,800 hygiene kits for Clean the World, and participated in 41 community-based projects. Since 2015, our annual Harvest for Hunger food drive has collected 694,000 pounds of food globally to provide thousands of meals for people with food insecurity. Additionally, the Company partners with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Feeding America, Audubon International, and United Way.
As our new CEO, John Geller has committed to a listening and learning tour, which has taken him on the road to visit sites and meet associates across the globe, furthering how we can make our business even better in the future. He has been with the Company since 2005 and formerly served as our CFO, playing a key role in the acquisitions of ILG and Welk Resorts, and revitalizing the Hyatt Vacation Ownership business. He became president in 2021, where he led the Company’s COVID-19 response while accelerating growth. As chief executive officer, John is leading the Company’s multi-year transformational journey.
