Why New Story is a Most Loved Workplace®

Positive Vision

New Story is leading the way in special education and therapeutic services for students and communities across the country. As we grow, we continue to extend our services to more children and young adults in more communities across the country.

Alignment of Values

New Story's values reflect who we are and how we serve our students, their families and our districts. Our values are: Integrity, Accountability, Collaborative, Inclusive and Supportive. New Story values were developed in partnership with state, regional and local teams. Additionally, they were developed as a result of companywide surveys and focus groups.

CEO Strengths

Our 2025 Most Loved Workplaces designation included special recognition for our CEO, Jonathan Bicknell. Jon is instrumental in modeling the company values. Some ways in which he does this is by holding monthly small-group coffee chats with employees where he listens and responds to feedback from employees at all levels in real time. He reinforces values and guiding principles during state and company-wide gatherings and meetings, anchoring all that we do in our Mission, Purpose, Vision and Values.

Company Respect

New Story’s five values have detailed behaviors that describe how we put the value into practice. Core values: Integrity: we are committed to honesty, trust, and transparency, Accountable: We are responsible for our actions. We learn from every experience. Collaborative: We grow and succeed together Inclusive: We celebrate the value of all, Supportive: We build meaningful relationships. We learn from one another. Our Inclusive value includes the following behaviors: We listen and consider everyone’s point of view, we create an environment that embraces the differences in all people and is safe to speak up, we advocate for diversity, inclusion and belonging at all levels of the organization, and we will learn about those different from me and adjust my behavior accordingly. Additionally, we administer regular company wide and state-level surveys to ensure all voices and perspectives are heard on a routine basis.

Loved Culture

New Story team members have access to a network of 14 school companies with more than 75 locations. We promote cross-company and cross-location sharing through our peer mentor programs tied to the New Story Leadership Development Programs – Accelerate and Ascend. Additionally, our state and regional leadership structure allows team members to share best practices and programs at the state levels. Additionally, New Story shares regular articles and blogs around key topics relevant in the education field as part of its internal communications program. Collaboration is a Core Value at New Story, and our employees further demonstrate this value with each other by sharing resources and partnering with others in the pursuit of excellence, regularly giving and receiving feedback for the benefit of the team, listening with the intent to understand, and remaining curious and willing to change.
