Segra utilizes programs like Peakon, a survey tool which enables company leadership to continuously listen to employees and learn how to improve their experience. Another platform, Excellence in Action, is used to recognize and reward employees in real time! Leaders and employees are able to use social recognition and points-based recognition to give “shout outs” for daily work and positive interactions, constantly engaging employees and leaders. Segra also hosts weekly/monthly “Victory” calls when individuals are called upon to showcase recent successes with executive leadership and other employees in other departments throughout the company.
Our diverse C-suite enables a company culture that is team oriented whereby goals are clearly communicated and supported. Our leadership team regularly provides updates on our successes and our opportunities for continued improvement. Examples include regular video updates from our CEO, COO podcasts, employee and customer net promoter score improvements, enhanced employee referral bonuses, and the launching of Hiring our Heroes initiative to name a few. We are supportive of continuing education, to include the opportunity to attend conferences and renew professional certifications. Segra also participates in community-based programs such as career fairs and our annual Data Center Olympics.
Our Peakon employee survey participation continues to increase, along with the positive feedback, as do the number of peer-to-peer recognitions through our EIA program. The increase in our NPS scores represents the impact of our leaders’ emphasis on the employee experience, which is paramount to our future success. Segra offers work flexibility for many roles, working together to design a schedule that meets both the needs of the business and the needs of the employee. The company offers real-time access to executive leadership, who are welcoming of employee feedback and regularly hold “coffee talk” sessions throughout our footprint.
Segra is a Corporate Alliance Program Partner with the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE). This membership is extended to employees to give opportunities to expand their knowledge and understanding of the industry and to work on their and SCTE certification if interested. Segra also extends industry membership to all employees for the Fiber Broadband Association, which provides access to regularly scheduled webinars, education and certification programs, and committee participation opportunities to assist on projects with Technology, Public Policy, Marketing, or the Conference Committee! We provide an extensive and engaging two-day new hire orientation tailored to new hire needs.
The company’s Articles of Excellence set the tone for our culture at Segra. We have high standards for integrity and professionalism, and everyone is treated with dignity and respect. We also have a clear purpose statement: Our purpose is to deliver a superior communications experience leveraging our next-generation fiber network and enabling our customers the freedom to grow. The culture of respect begins on day one of employment with a two-day new hire orientation, including time with our executive team. All employees live by our Articles of Excellence and reflect those guiding principles with our customer-centric approach to business.
Through our employee survey platform, we learned that employees were looking for ways to grow within the company. So, we developed Leadership Learning plans that are available to all levels of employees to enhance their skills as current and future leaders. We live and work in the communities that we serve, and are committed to acquiring, developing, and retaining a multi-talented workforce. When selecting employees to join Team Segra, a good cultural fit is as important as the skill set and experience that a candidate brings to the role. We also celebrate diversity and invest in our veterans and interns.
Building the executive team and a culture of excellence, Segra CEO Kevin T. Hart models company values daily. Since Hart joined in January 2022, Segra hired more than 240 team members, promoted 90, and expanded its portfolio of products and services. He also hosted Segra’s first vendor summit, an important touchpoint to improve relationships and solidify partnerships. Hart is helping Segra build critical broadband infrastructure and meet customer commitments. Forward-thinking and collaborative, Hart is committed to investing in the communities of customers by hiring local technicians and managers and to finding innovative solutions that give customers the freedom to grow.
Leaders listen for areas where they can make the greatest impact and then take action. Examples include implementation of a new employee discount program, salary adjustments, and a benefits package for 2023 that did not have an increase in premiums. Health/welfare benefits include short-term disability, gym membership and Weight Watchers reimbursement, and a comprehensive Employee Assistance Program that offers counseling sessions, legal assistance, financial consultations, parenting and eldercare resources, and identify theft consultations. We offer immediate vesting in the 401k program and one of our unique perks is that employees can obtain tickets for sports events at any Segra-sponsored venue.
At the beginning of the pandemic, the company was nimble enough to quickly pivot to a hybrid/remote work environment for most of our roles, keeping the employee experience and customer service at the forefront of the decision making. We offered paid COVID leave during the pandemic to provide financial support to our teams.
