Our employees have a positive vision for the future at USAble Life because we consistently share ongoing updates related to our company vision, strategies, and business initiatives to provide focus on our collective purpose and how employees contribute to our goals. We hold quarterly employee forums on Teams that bring everyone together to share information on company performance and organizational effectiveness. We also introduced a series of strategy videos this year, which are posted on Viva Engage. These videos spotlight an area of the business and share their focus and objectives for the plan year, ensuring alignment across the organization.

Our values are immediately actionable and easy to understand. We promote them from the very beginning of an employee’s journey at USAble Life and model behaviors and actions that demonstrate them on a daily basis. Our employees consistently deliver on our promises and look for innovative ways to make things better, exceeding expectations. They put others first and provide them with care, respect, and quality service. Our teammates are experts at their jobs, striving to be the best at what they do and continually advance their expertise. They are great teammates, honest and reliable, and have each other’s back.

Our CEO believes that respecting and capitalizing on diverse talents and voices is essential for the company’s long-term success. From the pandemic, he leaned hard into a remote-first, distributed work environment, understanding it expands our hiring pool while providing a better work/life balance, particularly for lower-paid employees. He is a role model in the use of new technologies and reinforces a cameras-on culture that gives employees visibility, voice, and presence in virtual meetings. This encouragement builds employee skill sets and encourages networking that leads to career growth and opportunity as well as continued company performance.

Annually, we conduct an employee engagement survey, giving our employees the opportunity to share what is working well and where there are opportunities for improvement. This survey and other state-based surveys have resulted in the creation of some of our largest programs. Examples include the formation of our Inclusion Council, Unconscious Bias Workshops, and the launch of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). We also launched emerging leader programs, a leadership academy, and an organizational expertise series that became foundational programs, as well as initiatives for our pandemic response, virtual work practices, benefit enhancements, and technology implementations.

We value employee connections and work to support a collaborative work environment. To make that happen, we use various technologies to help teammates work together effectively and efficiently. Our tools include Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Viva Engage, and OneDrive. We implemented multiple Viva Engage and Teams channels for teammates to share personal stories and promote individual and team successes. We also have Cross Team Conversation Groups that meet monthly to promote teamwork across the organization, develop relationships, and grow a sense of community.

We focus on the whole employee for overall wellness and engagement. In addition to traditional benefits, we offer benefits that support their development and work/life balance. We also provide a comprehensive EAP, paid parental leave, caregiver leave, and a PTO Leave Sharing bank so employees can share PTO with colleagues. We host meeting-free Recharge Days throughout the year so employees can attend workshops focused on health and well-being and give them time to rejuvenate. We offer training and development opportunities and tuition reimbursement. Every employee participates in annual bonus programs that reward based on achieving company and individual goals.
