Put Workplace Proof in Your 2027 Budget Before It Locks
Most companies set next year’s budget this quarter. If proof of your culture isn’t a line item by the time it locks, it waits another year, and so do the candidates who would have chosen you.
Here’s a simple way to get it in: one page your CFO can check line by line.
Why does this have to happen in Q4?
Because that’s when the money gets decided. A culture program that starts in Q1 needs its budget approved in Q4. Miss the window and you’re asking for an exception in March, when hiring plans are already running.
There’s a second reason. Proof takes time to build. Your people have to be surveyed, the results checked, and the evidence published where candidates and AI tools can find it. Starting now means the proof is in place when your 2027 hiring starts, not halfway through it.
What should the budget line actually buy?
Not a logo. Evidence. Before you ask for money, be clear about what you get. For Most Loved Workplace® certification, that’s:
- A measure of how your people feel, not what you say about them. Each employee spends 3–4 minutes on the survey, and our 2023 validation research found it tracks closely with how committed people are to the organization.
- Recognition where you’re strong. Companies can be certified in more than ten areas, such as diversity, inclusion, belonging, career advancement, veterans, volunteering and wellbeing.
- Proof you can use everywhere. Badge licensing rights cover digital and print branding, marketing and ESG.
- Visibility, not just a badge. One badge activates four connected surfaces: CertCheck, VisiPage, BPI + Workplace Report, and Careers + Amplification. Premium certified companies also get a profile page with a careers and jobs widget.
How do you make the case to your CFO?
Keep it to one page and four lines. Use your own numbers wherever you can, so finance can check them.
- The problem, in your numbers. How many roles do you plan to fill in 2027? Which ones stay open longest? Don’t guess at a turnover cost. Ask one question: what does it cost us when a strong candidate looks us up, finds nothing they can trust, and never applies?
- What you get. The list above. Point to the parts that answer your problem: visibility to candidates and AI, a category that matches who you’re hiring, or proof for your careers page.
- Why it works. In our 2024 research with CandE, HR and recruiting teams told us certification helped them attract better candidates.
- The ask and the timing. The amount, the quarter it starts, and who owns it. Leave a sign-off box at the bottom. A request that’s easy to approve gets approved.
Not sure what to put on line 1? That’s what a free 15-minute Employer Brand Strategy Check is for. You leave with a personalized 14-page Complete Employer Brand Report, with 8 sections covering how candidates, customers and AI see you and which certifications you may qualify for. It’s a ready-made appendix for your one-pager.
We're already certified. What should we budget for?
Three things:
- Renew now so your next cycle is locked in. Put renewal in the 2027 plan before budgets close, instead of finding it as a surprise next year.
- Add a category. If career advancement, wellbeing or veterans is a real strength, make it visible.
- Plan for the lists. America’s Top 100 Most Loved Workplaces® is coming Nov 4. And the Top 100 Global Most Loved Workplaces®, whose 2026 edition was featured in The Economist, is built on the same employee evidence. Start your Global application now and build your evidence as you go.
The bottom line
Budgets reward the requests that are easy to check. Put the problem in your own numbers, show exactly what the line buys, and ask before the window closes. Proof of a culture people love shouldn’t wait for next year’s budget.
